Minimizing the Casting Defects in High Pressure Die Casting Using Taguchi Analysis

چکیده

High-Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) is one of the major production processes automotive industry, widely used to manufacture geometrically complex nonferrous castings. The mechanical strength and microstructure HPDC-manufactured products changes with variation in several process control parameters such as injection pressure, molten temperature, 1st 2nd stage plunger velocity, cooling etc. Since these directly affect casting quality, their optimum combination needed maximize productivity minimize defects porosity, pinholes, blowholes, inclusions, Hence, tackle this problem, an approach presented paper that minimizes defect, i.e., HPDC by optimizing controlling through Design Experiments (DOE) a Taguchi Analysis. results obtained showed time, velocity have influence on response factor (density cast part). It was also concluded that, using 178 bar 665 °C 5 second 210 mold 0.20 m·s−1 6.0 rejection rate selected part due porosity reduced 61%.

Modern High Pressure Die-casting Processes for Aluminium Castings

There are about 33 processes commercially available for the production of aluminium castings. About 70% of the castings are produced using conventional high-pressure die-casting process. It’s main drawbacks are 1) Air and gas blow holes 2) Unable to weld 3) unable to heat treat to enhance mechanical properties. To overcome these, many modern processes have been invented. A few of them are 1) Hi...
